What the film is held to.
The construction of NORDTEK film, the thresholds it is accepted against and what each of them means on a car. Thresholds are published here; measured values go to partners with the technical list.
01 — Construction
Four layers, one skin.

Topcoat
A thin elastomeric coating. It carries the gloss or the satin, and it is what meets the wash brush, bug residue and the swirl marks from a bad towel.

Aliphatic TPU
The body of the film and the bulk of its thickness: the layer that stands between the road and the paint. Resists yellowing by its chemistry rather than by an additive.

Adhesive
A pressure-sensitive layer that wets out across the clearcoat over the first hours after installation. It also decides how cleanly the film comes off when it is removed.

Paint
What all of it is for. The film is chosen, applied and eventually replaced so the paint underneath is never the thing being repaired.
02 — What the thresholds mean
A minimum, not a best result.
A threshold is the line a material has to clear to be accepted. It is not the best value a lab once measured.
- Gauge · KLAR7.5 mil nominal
Gauge is the thickness of the film, in thousandths of an inch. The figure given is nominal and for the clear gloss film; the matte and black films have their own, given with the technical list.
- UV blocking · gloss filmsNot less than 90%
Ultraviolet is what ages clearcoat and fades colour. The gloss films hold back at least nine tenths of it before it reaches the paint. Not measured for the matte films.
- TPU stockAliphatic, yellowing-resistant
Aromatic polyurethane turns yellow in sunlight. The aliphatic kind resists it far longer, which keeps a clear film over white paint from turning the car cream.
- Heat–frost cycleOn file
Samples are cycled from heat to frost and back, again and again. On file: no cracking, clouding, blistering or colour change.
- Tensile strengthAbove 15 MPa
The force the film takes before it tears. It matters when the film is pulled over a curve in the bay and again when it is taken off.
- ElongationNot less than 150%
How far the film stretches before it breaks: to at least two and a half times its original length. That is the margin an installer works in on bumpers, mirror caps and deep curves.
03 — The topcoat
Light scratches close with warmth.
Fine marks from washing sit in the topcoat, not in the paint. With warmth they close again: sun on the panel, a rinse with warm water, a heat gun in the bay.
Deeper damage is a different matter. A cut through the film is not something warmth closes: the film on that panel is replaced.
04 — Four finishes
What is on file, film by film.
Each mark stands on a test report on file. KLAR and DIMMA are the clear films, SVART and NATT the same material in black; the black films’ values are released to partners on request.
